Our Story
Most parents have close to nine months to prepare for parenthood. We had three weeks. We received a phone call one afternoon, from a NZ pregnancy support service, that would change our lives forever: we were asked to adopt a baby.
From the moment we said “yes”, there was no shortage of support. Our soon-to-be daughter, Bodhi (New Zealand born), was welcomed into the world with the generosity and love of hundreds of people. As our news spread around town, friends and strangers alike extended support. Bags of baby clothes arrived at our doorstep. Food was delivered to our kitchen. Our legal fees were suddenly paid.
In the following months, we pondered the best way to share with Bodhi this story. We searched for a solution and found none. The “Health Book” we received was not designed for kids to read, and our baby scrapbook was incomplete. As new parents, we didn’t have the time and energy required to get past the second page.
It was at this time that the idea for Hatch Storybooks was born.
Our goal was to have Bodhi’s story in a format that she could return to over and over. As we talked with others about it, it became clear many other parents wanted this for their kids too.
Bodhi is now three years old. Her favourite things include overnight-oats, an elephant soft-toy whose fur is malting as a result of too many kisses, and of course, reading books.
